Mother Dolores Hart for The Daily

In the late 1950s, Dolores Hart was a Hollywood Starlet. She appeared in films opposite of Elvis. After playing a nun in Francis of Assissi, she decided to become an actual nun and moved to the Abbey of Regina Laudis where she has been ever since. An Academy-Award nominated documentary about Mother Dolores called “God Is The Biggest Elvis” plays on HBO this month. I shot these photos in the studio for an article in The Daily.

Carlos Morillo for WSJ

Late last year I drove up to Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville, NY with Carlos Morillo so he could reclaim his belongings after a 20 year stint in prison. Morillo was wrongfully imprisoned for murder when a witness lied to protect her son. The Legal Aid Society fought to overturn his conviction. An article appeared in the Wall Street Journal last week.

Early in his term, Morillo was in a physical confrontation in Sing Sing and received this scar along the side of face.

At Green Haven Correctional Facility, Morillo collects his belongings and walks away from prison for the last time.

Bar Churches for Wall Street Journal

Last Sunday I went to church for the first in a while. Twice. Both at different bars in my neighborhood. I worked on a story about church services held in bars. It was interesting to see this strange but comfortable juxtaposition. Jay Bakker, the pastor from Revolution Church, is the son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. He was great — asking powerful questions in a sincere way. It’s the best when assignments 1) introduce me to things in my community that I didn’t know about and 2) challenge my assumptions. Amen.

The Creators Project

The Creators Project is coming to San Francisco this weekend. To promote the event, they used a photo from my coverage from the Brooklyn event for magazine ads and posters all over the city. The interactive events are really well done and I’m looking forward to shooting San Francisco’s tomorrow.

Fashion Week for T Magazine

Someone from IMG told me that New York Fashion Week was the second biggest media event in America behind the Super Bowl. I was surprised to hear that but it certainly is a media zoo. This season I had the opportunity to cover it for the New York Times’ T Magazine. I really appreciate their approach to Fashion Week and how it allowed me to photograph it with a different and distinct vision.

During the week, I shot backstage at Richard Chai Love, Prabal Gurung, Derek Lam, Moncler Grenoble, and J. Crew. I also did Dress Code features with Jason Wu, Creatures of the Wind, and Reed Krakoff. I put together a compilation of my favorite pictures from the week on Lovebryan.

Doggy District for Vice

Last month, I received an assignment out of left field to shoot dogs in questionable situations for Vice Magazine. What came of it was a fashion editorial that made the cover of the current issue. While most of the pups were understandably a bit rowdy, Finn, the Italian greyhound coverboy, was a superstar. Now our image will grace the cover of over a dozen different editions of the magazine all over the world. I also did an interview about the cover for Vice’s website.

I photographed Nicholas Gazin and Mickey Duzyj for a G-Shock print ad. It’s an ongoing campaign that G-Shock has pairing creatives across all different fields.

Lights and Dogs for WSJ

I’ve been working for Wall Street Journal all week. My assignments are such a mixed bag. It keeps things interesting. For today’s paper, I photographed Tony Award-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams and how he lights his own apartment. I also shoot sportscaster Mary Carillo who will be announcing the Westminster Dog Show next month.
